NoRedInk and the Center for Educational Innovation Partner to Improve Writing Instruction and Achievement in New York City Public Schools

NoRedInk and the Center for Educational Innovation (CEI) announce a new partnership to increase student achievement in writing across New York City Public Schools. Through this partnership, CEI will become a provider of professional learning opportunities and interventions supported by NoRedInk, a web-based writing curriculum. According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), the writing scores of 8th grade students attending schools in large cities such as New York lag behind those of their counterparts in suburban schools.

As part of the partnership, NoRedInk will provide licenses to public school students participating in CEI's signature program, Project BOOST (Building Options and Opportunities for Students). Project BOOST supports students from under-resourced communities with Academic Coaching and Tutoring, College and Career Readiness, Esports, STEM Robotics and Coding, and Social Justice Music and Art programs.

NoRedInk provides a comprehensive, adaptive, mastery-based writing curriculum for grades 5?12. The web-based writing program engages students by personalizing exercises according to their interests. Its adaptive learning engine adjusts to every student's strengths and weaknesses, giving teachers the actionable data they need to differentiate instruction. The program also provides scaffolded support throughout the writing process as students draft compositions, engage in peer and self-review, and revise their work. NoRedInk helps schools navigate between at-home and in-school learning during the pandemic and beyond.

"With the challenges schools have faced during the pandemic, maintaining high student engagement is of the utmost importance," said Jeff Scheur, founder and CEO of NoRedInk. "Combining our interest-based English Language Arts curriculum with CEI's track record of supporting school communities through professional learning will allow us to help many more kids in New York City Public Schools become strong, confident writers."

According to Michael Kohlhagen, CEO of CEI, the partnership with NoRedInk will do more than help boost students' writing skills. "The use of NoRedInk will help support several core values of Project BOOST, including strengthening college and career readiness and nurturing students' talents and interests, with an eye on improving communication skills and overall academic success," he said. "Further, the partnership will help further CEI's focus on equity and innovation, school transformation, and our ongoing efforts to reduce barriers and improve the academic success of our students in New York City schools."
