Cable and Wireless Charitable Foundation Supports Relief Efforts in Central America

The Cable and Wireless Charitable Foundation (CWCF) is once again supporting World Central Kitchen (WCK), a nonprofit organization that uses the power of food to heal communities and strengthen economies in times of crisis and beyond. Earlier this week, CWCF made a $10,000 grant to the organization to assist with the provision of meals to communities in Central America recently devastated by hurricanes Eta and Iota. The relationship between the two organizations was first established in 2019, to support relief efforts in the Bahamas following Hurricane Dorian.

On November 4, Hurricane Eta made landfall in Honduras and Guatemala as a category 4 storm. Thirteen days later, Hurricane Iota followed a similar course, leaving thousands of residents without access to food, causing severe damage to infrastructure, and resulting in widespread flooding, making relief efforts challenging.

"Our customers and employees are our top priority and we are committed to supporting the communities in which we operate. Given our prior work with WCK, we are confident in their ability to manage the logistical challenges involved with disaster relief and serve those in need," said Noelle Smikle, Director of the Cable & Wireless Charitable Foundation. To date, WCK has delivered more than 100,000 meals in Guatemala and Honduras. Smikle continued, "This is their area of expertise and our goal is to empower their efforts to deliver critical aid to those communities most in need." With the help of CWCF's grant, and other donations, WCK aims to prepare and distribute 10,000 lunches and dinners daily.

In the aftermath of hurricanes Eta and Iota, the CWCF has already allocated $55,000 to support impacted communities through various grants that will provide much needed supplies, food and other essential items for those impacted in Panama, Honduras and Guatemala. As CWCF continues to support relief and recovery initiatives in Central America, anyone wishing to join the effort can make a contribution today by visiting its website.
