The Global Dominance of Egyptian Squash Players Persists

World no. 2 Ali Farag and world no. 2 Nour El Sherbini were crowned as the champions of the "CIB Egyptian Squash Open 2020" men's and women's platinum event after a series of fiercely competitive matches by the pyramids with a strong public presence.

The tournament's astounding success is a testament to Egypt's prowess as a country capable of hosting exemplary international events even amid the novel coronavirus pandemic. Sponsored by CIB and presented by IEvents, the tournament ensured the well-being of all the audience members and players involved through strictly following the necessary safety measures recommended by the Egyptian government and all relevant parties.

The final round matches witnessed Egyptian dominance as usual, as world no. 2 Ali Farag had a 3-0 win over world no. 4 Tarek Momen by 11-8, 11-3, 11-4 in 48 minutes. That in addition to world no. 2 Nour El Sherbini 3-0 win over world no. 1 Nouran Gohar by 11-9, 11-9, 11-6 in 37 minutes.

His Excellency Dr. Khaled El-Enany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, expressed the Ministry's happiness to host major sports events in archaeological sites, as sports were always an essential element of ancient Egyptian civilization. He further added that it is a way to highlight Egypt's unique culture.

The Minister of Tourism and Antiquities affirmed that, this time, the "CIB Egyptian Squash Open" Championship has a distinctive nature as it is the first sports event that takes place at an archaeological site in Egypt since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic and closely precedes Egypt's resumption of beach tourism in the beginning of July and cultural tourism in the beginning of September.
