After completing an internship this summer with the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York, Burten is now preparing for his second year at New York Law School.
About the Winner
"Michael Burten embodies integrity and fortitude, both through his military service and his journey to become a prosecutor, and we at CCK are proud to support him as he has supported so many of us," explained Robert Chisholm, one of Chisholm Chisholm & Kilpatrick LTD's founding partners.
The Scholarship Committee found Michael's deep commitment to the pursuit of justice, particularly for military veterans and service members, to closely align with CCK's mission. "Michael's devotion to his fellow service members, including his team in Iraq and those veterans he encountered while working for Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, is honorable and admirable," said Chisholm. "That devotion, combined with his dedication to his studies, made his application stand out." His experiences in the U.S. Marine Corps instilled in Michael the determination to overcome any obstacle and helped him to develop the unwavering sense of honor and morality he continues to exhibit.
