DSS, Inc. Presenting at the AMIA 2020 Virtual Annual Symposium

JUNO BEACH, Fla., Sept. 29, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Document Storage Systems, Inc. (DSS, Inc.), a leading provider of health information technology (HIT) solutions for federal, private and public healthcare organizations, today announced that it is presenting at the AMIA 2020 Virtual Annual Symposium on November 16-17, 2020.

The company is hosting two separate poster sessions, which highlight COVID-19 test result monitoring and surveillance in 40 U.S. hospitals, and real-time suicide prevention for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

COVID-19 Surveillance for VA Medical Centers

Titled "Rapid Deployment of Hospital Information System Integrated Novel COVID-19 Test Result Monitoring and Surveillance Solution in 40 U.S. Hospitals," the poster session will detail the development and rapid deployment of a hospital information system integrated solution for monitoring the test results of patients presenting with symptoms that require screening for COVID-19 to 40 U.S. VA Medical Centers during the pandemic.

TheraDoc, DSS's industry leading software decision support tool that provides real-time electronic clinical surveillance for antimicrobial stewardship and infectious disease treatment, served as the foundation for this effort.

Seven days prior to the Trump Administration's declaration of the COVID-19 National Emergency, hospitals with the software platform were able to test, implement and automate the tracking and monitoring of CDC guideline based COVID-19 screening and confirmation test results via a centralized hospital information system integrated solution.

The test results were monitored in real-time and patients were flagged to facilitate efficient review by care team members via a single user interface that listed patients who tested negative, as well as those who tested positive.

"During the early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, VA staff were overwhelmed with keeping up with the CDC's changing requirements for the pandemic response," said Mark Byers, President of DSS, Inc., and a 2020 FedHealth IT 100 awardee. "We are excited that the team will be presenting how we addressed this challenge with custom, standardized COVID-19 surveillance alerts and reports to all VAMCs using TheraDoc."

Enhanced Suicide Prevention at the VA

Titled "Real-Time Monitoring of Suicide Prevention Care Pathways," this poster session will highlight how real-time data can be employed to improve the reliability of suicide prevention care processes at the VA. Leveraging the DSS Iconic Data Suicide Prevention Manager, this solution offers a clinical business intelligence engine that allows for the observation of Veterans who have been identified to be at risk for suicide, and to identify, in real-time, potential defects in the Veteran's care that may require intervention.

"These poster sessions reinforce how DSS offers the most cutting-edge health IT solutions for helping the VA best advance its mission of providing the best care possible for Veterans," added Byers.

The COVID-19 surveillance poster session will take place on November 16th under the Public Health Informatics category, and the suicide prevention poster session will take place on November 17th under the Clinical Informatics category. Click here to learn more about these sessions.
