Fig Factor Foundation Raises $5,000 to Help 20 Graduates and Their Families Through Its Young Latina COVID-19 Emergency Fund

NORTH AURORA, Ill., June 27, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Alarmed by the rise of COVID-19 in many Latino neighborhoods and its devastating impact, Hispanic nonprofits organizations such as the Fig Factor Foundation raised $5,000 for its Young Latina COVID-19 Emergency Fund to help 20 of its graduates and their families living in the United States and Mexico.

Jacqueline S. Ruiz, the foundation's founder and president, was grateful for the generous donations from companies and individuals such as ComEd, Ponce Reyna Agency/Farmers Insurance and Leonor Gil.

"Watching the Chicago news everyday, I became very concerned about how Latinos not only have been getting sick from this pandemic but also at the same time losing their livelihoods," she said. "Many of our graduates and their families depend on these jobs to create stable and secure lives. I hope that the foundation's emergency fund can help them during this very difficult and precarious time. So far, thanks to generous donations from businesses and individuals, we have raised $5,000."

The fund was open to the foundation's Core Program Graduates ages 12 to 25 who experienced hardship due to COVID-19. They also submitted a 750-word essay describing their families' current situation and how they would use the funds.

Gabriela Rodil, the foundation's treasurer, said the graduates appreciate knowing there are people who care about them.

"Besides the concrete help the families will get from the fund, I think the main impact is to know they are not alone and there are people and organizations out there willing and eager to help," Rodil said. "The biggest gift is feeling heard and supported."
