Gennev Unveils First-of-Its-Kind Menopause Journey Map to Revolutionize Women's Health in Midlife

SEATTLE, June 19, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- To support 38 million women juggling menopause symptoms, Gennev (http://www.gennev.com) today announced a first-of-its-kind Menopause Journey Map with five Menopause Types. Created by evaluating data from 50,000 Menopause Assessments, Gennev's new Menopause Journey Map informs a woman if she is in menopause and where she is in the journey. This work paves the way for women to track their health through perimenopause and post-menopause for the first time and understand what's happening, get solutions, and manage symptoms.

"For too long, women's health 40+ has been treated as shameful, but with GenX women aging into midlife, demands for menopause information, community and solutions are on the rise," said Jill Angelo, co-founder and CEO of Gennev. "The healthcare industry has been stubborn to evolve, but now we have the data, software, diagnostics, products and services that allow us to tackle menopause symptoms head on. We have the ability to create the What to Expect When You're Expecting for menopause."

Gennev's path to creating the Menopause Journey Map began in 2017 with the creation of the industry's most comprehensive menopause questionnaire - the Gennev Menopause Assessment - created by Rebecca Dunsmoor-Su, MD, MCSE, OB/GYN, North American Menopause Society (NAMS)-certified practitioner, and Chief Medical Officer at Gennev. Since then, over 50,000 women have taken the Menopause Assessment, which Dr. Dunsmoor-Su used to validate Gennev's five Menopause Types. Gennev, which developed the industry's first telehealth platform for menopause, combines medical science and lifestyle behaviors to help women take control of their health in the second half of life...starting with menopause. The company aims to help 1 million women improve their menopause experience in 2020.

"Every woman that reaches middle age will experience some level of menopause symptoms. Left untreated, these symptoms can lead to a significant reduction in quality of life," said Dunsmoor-Su. " We're excited to deliver the Menopause Journey Map to help set expectations for women and offer predictive solutions for symptom relief, something that's never been done before. In the future, we hope that this important body of work will lend itself to future innovations in women's health."

First-Of-Its-Kind Menopause Journey Map
Similar to how women have tracked their pregnancy through trimesters for decades, Gennev's Menopause Map breaks menopause into 5 types. Below is an overview of each Menopause Type (detailed overview of Menopause Types is available here):
*Menopause Type 1: Women are pre-menopause and starting to see some perimenopausal symptoms with early irregular menses, occasional hot flashes, some (irregular) mood symptoms. Many women experience exacerbation of PMS.
*Menopause Type 2: Women are perimenopausal and starting to experience irregular and spaced periods that are often heavy. Skipping periods is normal during this phase and can last up to a year after last menses. Women may experience symptoms of hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disturbances, and mood changes.
*Menopause Type 3: Women in this phase are in early menopause, which lasts approximately 1 to 10 years after last menses. Women will still experience some symptoms, but symptoms will wane later in this stage. Vaginal symptoms tend to appear 2 to 3 years after the last period. Women may notice brain, skin, and hair changes more frequently. Mood extremes tend to ease.
*Menopause Type 4: Women in this phase are in later menopause, which begins approximately eight years after menopause. During this phase, symptoms shift to mental, vaginal, urinary, hair, and skin, as well as more muscle and joint pain.
*Menopause Type 5: Defines a woman whose position in the transition is uncertain because she is taking hormones. This reflects women on oral contraceptives or with an IUD that stops menses. This category also includes those who have had a hysterectomy or ablation, but have kept their ovaries (as they will hormonally go through menopause, but experience no bleeding signal).

A woman receives her menopause type after taking Gennev's free Menopause Assessment. She is then invited to connect with Gennev's health care team of OB/GYNs certified by the North American Menopause Society, and health coaches certified as Registered Dietitian Nutritionists, for a comprehensive menopause plan based on her type and her unique needs. Her health data throughout her menopause journey and beyond is accessible to her and her unified Gennev health team in one place within Gennev's menopause platform.

Over the past three years, over 50,000 women have benefited from Gennev's line of supplements, lubricants, and telehealth services for menopause. This includes telehealth services specializing in gynecology, primary care and lifestyle behaviors as well as natural, quality-sourced wellness products and supplements that support mood, energy, stress response, immune health, joint pain, inflammation, sexual wellness and vaginal health.
