Tulsa Mayoral Candidate Launches Relief Fund for Trump Rally Workers Who Want to Stay Safer at Home

TULSA, Okla., June 17, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- On June 20, 2020, President Trump is holding the World's largest indoor gathering since the beginning of the deadly, global novel coronavirus pandemic. Trump's political campaign rally is planned to be held in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and local and state public health officials are telling Tulsans that this is a really bad idea with daily COVID-19 cases spiking in recent days.

While most people do have the right to choose whether to attend or not, most frontline event staff do not have the luxury of not being exposed to over 19,000 chanting Trump fans - many of whom have suggested that COVID is a hoax, and do not believe in protecting themselves or others from the virus.

Saturday's event is planned to be held in the publicly-owned BOK Center arena in Downtown Tulsa, where no major events have been held since early March due to COVID-19, and all other events following the Trump campaign rally are also cancelled.

Many of these Tulsa-based event staff are part-time workers and have no health insurance. So, not only will they be at a very high risk of exposure to COVID-19, they may also be less likely to seek expensive medical treatment if they fall ill. If they do seek medical treatment, many could face financial ruin when medical bills begin to come due. Recognizing that the novel coronavirus is a particularly contagious strain, and that there is still so much public health and medical officials don't understand about the virus, there is a high probability that many attendees and staff may become vectors of prolonged community spread throughout Greater Tulsa and beyond. "There is great concern in Tulsa that a new spike in coronavirus cases in Tulsa will shutdown our recent struggle to safely reopen our local economy, essentially nullifying all the sacrifices that individuals and businesses in our community has been making since March," said Craig Immel, candidate for Tulsa Mayor.

Anyone who wants to make a donation to help keep Tulsa's frontline arts and entertainment event staff healthy and financially whole by contributing to those employees who want to skip this ill-advised and poorly planned event are encouraged to donate at https://www.gofundme.com/f/cash-relief-fund-for-tulsa-trump-rally-workers
