Copyright Clearance Center Managing Open Access Agreements with More Than 300 Institutions Through RightsLink® for Scientific Communications

Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC), a leader in advancing copyright, accelerating knowledge, and powering innovation, announces that RightsLink for Scientific Communications (RLSC), trusted by 30 leading publishers representing 2,400 journals, is managing Open Access (OA) agreements with more than 300 institutions.

RLSC helps publishers manage author transactions and supports a variety of transformative agreements, including Read and Publish, Publish and Read, and Pure OA with a ?touch-free' workflow that doesn't require author involvement. This not only facilitates alignment with mandates such as Plan S, but also improves transparency, reduces friction for the author, and lowers costs for all parties. With support for pre-paid funder and publisher accounts, RightsLink is the only solution that enables Read and Publish agreements between publishers and institutions without requiring author involvement.

"RightsLink provides a seamless experience for key stakeholders pursuing and supporting open access publishing," said James Baldini, Senior Director, American Chemical Society (ACS) Publications Sales Operations. "Now we can meet a market need to provide our institutional partners with a user friendly and scalable workflow solution in this space."

RightsLink Network Effect

Because RightsLink is used by so many of the world's top publishers, CCC is able to bring a broad and advanced set of capabilities to all publishers, funders, institutions and authors using the RightsLink platform.

"The RightsLink network effect drives collaboration, partnership and innovation in the evolving scientific publishing ecosystem," said Gretchen Gasser-Ellis, Vice President and Managing Director, Publisher Solutions, CCC. "There's strength in numbers, as evidenced by these milestones. The power of the RightsLink network effect goes beyond publishers and extends to the authors, funders and institutions who trust the solution's familiar user experience and flexible workflow."

CCC is a trusted intermediary and recognized market leader uniquely positioned to facilitate dialog among key stakeholders in the author, publisher, institution, funding and vendor communities. CCC also encourages engagement across boundaries through an ongoing series of roundtables, panel events, webinars, podcasts and blogs. CCC is a member of the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA), the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP), the International Association of STM Publishers (STM), and a Sustaining Member of the Society of Scholarly Publishing (SSP).

Transformative Agreements Town Hall

CCC will present a virtual Town Hall on Thursday, 18 June at 10:00 EDT/15:00 BST/16:00 CEST to review the latest developments in Transformative Agreements and foster a discussion on how innovation is answering the Open Access challenge.

Explore the Scientific Publishing Ecosystem

Last year, CCC and Outsell, Inc., the voice of the data, information and analytics economy, hosted an interactive, strategic discussion with senior industry executives on ?The Future of Science' and what it means for all stakeholders in London. The program featured senior policy makers, scholarly and society publishers, funders, institutions and researchers focused on the value chain, implicit and explicit reward systems, and what may need to shift to improve scientific research. To guide the discussion, CCC and Outsell collaborated to produce a detailed map of the research ecosystem and an accompanying report highlighting stakeholders, contributions and rewards, and suggesting areas of opportunity. The map does not construct a new, ideal process but rather reflects today's common language and understanding of the ecosystem from the perspective of each stakeholder.
