Detroit Academy of the Arts & Sciences to Lead One Nation Youth March for Racial Equality on Friday

Who: 

The talented youth of the Detroit Academy of Arts and Sciences (DAAS) and other schools. 



What:

The DAAS students along with other local schools will lead a peaceful protest march down Jefferson Ave. downtown in support of victims of police brutality, racial injustices and inequality.  The Detroit police and fire departments will also be marching alongside the youth during this historic event. The students will be taking the stage at Hart Plaza and will be speaking about the recent events taking place.



Where: 

Participants will meet at the Detroit Academy of the Arts & Sciences, 2985 E. Jefferson Ave. in Downtown Detroit. The group will march from DAAS to Hart Plaza along East Jefferson Ave. Transportation from Hart Plaza back to DAAS will be provided.



When: 

Friday, June 12, Noon-2 p.m.



Why

These students want to make a difference in their community by marching for racial equality and the end of police brutality. Their theme is "One Nation Youth March." The theme was inspired by the DAAS choir's recent YouTube video "One Nation Under a Groove." The video has generated over 1 million YouTube views. 

Participants in the march are urged to bring signs, protest peacefully and wear masks.
