New Horizons Computer Learning Centers South Florida Teams Up with Overtown Youth Center to Offer Free Virtual Scholarship Program for Students Seeking a Career in IT

MIAMI, June 3, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- For the first time ever, New Horizons Computer Learning Centers of South Florida, the leading IT educator for individuals and corporations is offering its free CompTIA A+ Scholarship program virtually this summer in partnership with the Overtown Youth Center. Classes are designed to give students interested in the field of IT the opportunity to kickstart their career and learn valuable skills from world-class tech instructors.

"We're excited to make this scholarship opportunity available to high school students seeking firsthand learning experience from experts in the field in a new and more attainable way," said Charlene Talbot, Executive Director, New Horizons Computer Learning Centers, South Florida. "During these challenging times, offering virtual classes ensure students can still take advantage of the free program from the safety and comfort of their own home."

The virtual two-week program offers a sneak peek to New Horizons' 18-week technology Bootcamp, which includes topics like security, networking and Microsoft cloud computing. Graduates from the Bootcamp can earn widely respected certifications at the completion of the training, while gaining the skills needed to prepare for a career in IT.

As a result of the pandemic and an overwhelming demand for employees to work from home, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency has named cybersecurity engineers, cybersecurity risk management and information technology staff as essential and in-demand employees.

"The demand for IT professionals is at an all-time high with most job functions becoming automated and remote, so we're pleased to partner with New Horizons on this scholarship opportunity for students," said Tina Brown, Chief Executive Officer, Overtown Youth Center.

Dr. James Stanger, Chief Technology Evangelist at CompTIA, said "The importance of providing these educational programs and exposing students to the industry early on is crucial to meeting the growing demand for IT professionals. The CompTIA A+ certification is the industry standard for establishing a career in IT."

The CompTIA A+ scholarship program offered through New Horizons South Florida and Overtown Youth Center begins on June 8 and runs Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. until June 18. At the completion of the program, each student will sit the CompTIA A+ certification exam, the industry standard for establishing a career in IT.

To qualify for selection, students must be high school juniors or seniors in Miami-Dade County. Exceptions are made for outstanding freshman and sophomores looking to get an earlier start.
