Candidate for US Senate Publishes Bestselling Memoir on His Past as a Master Identity Thief

BATON ROUGE, La., June 2, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Dartanyon A. Williams, a candidate for US Senate representing the state of Louisiana, launched his memoir, The Master Identity Thief, last week. The book reached bestseller status on Amazon.com.

The Master Identity Thief tells the story of Williams' rise, fall and road to redemption as a young identity thief. Starting at 15 years of age, Williams stole the identities of his parents, followed by his grandparents. Within seven years, his operation evolved into a multi-million-dollar, multi-level identity theft crime enterprise.

After years in prison, including three spent in unconstitutional solitary confinement at Tangipahoa Parish Jail in Amite, Louisiana, Williams rediscovered an intimate relationship with his Heavenly Father, worked hard to earn the forgiveness of his family, and dedicated his life to education and public service.

The book also serves as a call to action for law enforcement and lawmakers to take identity theft, in all of its facets and forms, more seriously, and for citizens to educate and protect themselves. To this end, Williams, the world's foremost authority on identity fraud, including payment card, vehicular and processor fraud, has penned 60 legislative proposals targeting the seven forms of identity theft in the second volume of his memoir.

History has shown that instances of fraud tend to spike during an economic downturn. For example, as a result of the Great Recession of 2008, there was a major spike in identity theft cases spurred by the need of so many for immediate financial relief. Naturally, individuals would look for means and to the creditworthiness of those closest to them. Williams refers to the perpetration of fraud against oneself as "Suicidal Identity Theft".

"For a lot of Americans who are living paycheck to paycheck and merely existing, Suicidal Identity Theft is going to offer temporary, yet immediate relief. It's like drowning but being able to breathe through a straw for only a little while," says Williams. "What I hope to show with this book is that the ramifications of this act are far-reaching, beyond what you may even have considered, and that there are pathways available that don't involve committing a crime."
