Studying for the SAT During a Pandemic: Ivy League Tutoring Offers Tips

SAT and ACT college entrance tests were cancelled this spring amid COVID-19, wreaking havoc for thousands of teens who prepped for the tests. "Many students and parents are worried that in this strange COVID-19 period, they will forget the hard work they did to prep for a cancelled test date," says Susan Santucci, the founder of Ivy League Tutoring. To get teens ready for the next SAT on August 29th, Ivy League Tutoring, a leader in test prep who's helped thousands of students raise their scores to get into colleges such as Princeton, Brown, Yale, and Stanford, has created customized SAT study plans to help students achieve their goal scores.

"Preparation is just as important as ever because more and more people are applying to college and competition is fiercer each year," says Santucci. She encourages students to use the time confined at home to study for the SAT and come out with higher test scores and strongly urges students to have a focused SAT study plan.

Here are two plans that she recommends to reap the largest score gains.

Study Plan 1: Phased approach. Two SAT tutoring sessions in May; 2 sessions in June and 2 more in July. Then meet weekly with a tutor in August until the August 29th test. This sustained study over a longer period of time allows for greater mastery of material and higher score gains. Tutors insist on accountability for weekly assignments.

Study Plan 2: Meet weekly for test prep from May through the August 29th SAT or the July 18th ACT. Tutors will show your child the essential information and strategies they need to know for each section. The weekly plan works best for highly motivated students. It's also excellent for anyone with test anxiety who will benefit from increased exposure to test questions. Students take official SAT practice tests and work from a test bank with access to thousands of questions.

For students who need to work without a tutor, parents can send Ivy League Tutoring their teen's most recent SAT or ACT score report, and for a small fee, a test prep expert will analyze his or her score report and email you a customized study plan that gives tips for mindset, handling procrastination, and identifies your child's greatest weaknesses with specific actions to take to increase scores.
