Globe and Mail correspondent Nathan VanderKlippe on China and COVID-19, on J-Talks Live

TORONTO, May 4, 2020 /CNW/ - Nathan VanderKlippe, the Beijing-based Globe and Mail Asia correspondent, shares his perspective on COVID-19 measures in China and the issues arising from its post-lockdown life on the next J-Talks Live video webcast hosted by Anna Maria Tremonti. The conversation will take place on Thursday, May 7 at 10 a.m. EDT.

All eyes still remain on China, where the coronavirus first emerged, strict quarantine measures have been relaxed and attempts at resuming regular activities have begun, albeit with the use of controversial tools such as digital surveillance. VanderKlippe will share insights into the strategies and tactics deployed by the Chinese government and provide a glimpse into the array of challenges as restrictions are lifted.

"With China's government exerting greater control over both public life and the media, I'm interested in hearing about the impact those measures are having on citizens trying to shift back to regular activities, as well as on Nathan's reporting," says Tremonti, who is also the host of More, the CBC podcast. "And since China is ahead of us on the pandemic timeline, what can Canadians learn about what we might expect as our country slowly tries to resume some semblance of our pre-pandemic lives."

This event is part of the Canadian Journalism Foundation's J-Talks program, which explores pressing journalistic issues. This special series of free 40-minute webcasts focuses on journalism's critical role in the COVID-19 crisis and the issues reporters cover to bring trustworthy news and information to Canadians.

Past event videos and podcasts from our popular J-Talks series are also available.

The CJF thanks the generosity of J-Talks series sponsor BMO Financial Group and in-kind supporter CISION.
