PITTSBURGH, April 8, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- An inventor from Monmouth Junction, N.J., has developed the patent pending AISLE-MATE, a modified armrest for aisle seats in commercial airliners. It provides an increased level of safety by keeping elbows, arms, legs and knees out of the aisle. A prototype is available.
"I developed my invention about six years ago after becoming a frequent flyer. My invention prevents a blow to the knee and elbow due to a beverage or food cart passing through the aisle. It also helps keep passengers sitting upright," said the inventor. The invention offers an improved armrest for use on airliner seats adjacent to aisles. It prevents a passenger's elbow from extending into the aisle. It will also help passengers keep their legs and feet from extending into the aisle. In turn, this provides an increased level of safety for passengers. With this modified armrest, commercial airliners may be spared costs associated with lawsuits and insurance costs. In addition to airliners, this armrest is adaptable for use on all forms of transportation, including buses and trains.
