Support for the Fight Against COVID-19 - Valero Energy Announces Donations of $150,000 to Support Quebec's Collective Effort

MONTREAL, April 6, 2020 /CNW Telbec/ -  In the context of the fight against the pandemic of COVID-19, Valero Energy announces a second wave of donations, this time to support organizations that deal with food security, domestic violence and other urgent needs.

"The province of Quebec has paused and confinement measures can have harmful effects for certain groups of individuals and for families in precarious situations. We must act to support front-line organizations that lead the fight in a very concrete way, on a daily basis," says Louis-Philippe Gariépy, Director, Public and Government Affairs ? Canada, at Valero Energy.

These donations are distributed as follows:

Food security:

• $50,000 for the Tablée des chefs' initiative "Les Cuisines solidaires", an emergency fund that will allow the creation and the distribution of frozen cooked meals;
• $25,000 to Le Grenier, a food bank in Levis;
• $15,000 to Action secours, Vie d'espoir, a food bank in Montreal East;
• Other donations, notably to La Dauphinelle and La Maison Dalauze, two shelters for victims of domestic violence and their families.

Domestic violence:

• $25,000 dedicated to the creation of emergency overflow units in the regions of Quebec and Montreal administrated by SOS Violence conjugale, an organization that offers assessment, support and referral services to victims of domestic violence.

Community support:

• $50, 000 to United Way ? Chaudières-Appalaches' Emergency Fund to support local community organizations facing the crisis.

"In normal circumstances, domestic violence is a complex problem per se; one for which resources are insufficient. The support of Valero Energy will allow us to consolidate the support to women and children who are particularly at risk during this crisis," explains Jocelyne Jolin, Executive Director of SOS Violence conjugale.

"The worst thing that can happen to people is to be told that there are no solutions. We want to be able to say that we are participating in finding options, maybe even giving a little hope. We must show solidarity with our communities, our neighbors, our fellow citizens," concludes Mr. Gariépy.
