Regional Agencies Invite Public Comment As Planned I-680 Express Lane Upgrades Take Shape in Alameda Co.

SAN FRANCISCO, March 26, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) and the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) today released proposed draft amendments to add a high-occupancy vehicle (HOV)/express lane along Interstate 680 through Sunol, Pleasanton, Dublin and San Ramon.

The proposed amendments are to the long-range regional transportation and land use plan known as Plan Bay Area 2040 and to the 2019 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). MTC and ABAG invite Bay Area residents to comment on the draft amendments. Comments must be received no later than Friday, April 24, 2020.

Work planned by the Alameda County Transportation Commission to upgrade Interstate 680 in Alameda County would add an express lane to the southbound and northbound travel lanes from Alcosta Boulevard to State Route 84, closing the gap between existing and in-progress express lane projects directly to the north and south.

The proposed amendments would add the project cost and description of the Interstate 680 Express Lane Gap Closure Project in Alameda County to Plan Bay Area 2040 and to the TIP, necessitating a new Transportation-Air Quality Conformity Analysis, which also was released today for public comment through Friday, April 24, 2020.

Written comments may be addressed to MTC-ABAG Project Manager Adam Noelting, 375 Beale Street, Suite 800, San Francisco, CA 94105. Comments also may be sent via e-mail to [email protected] or by fax at 415.536.9800.
