RLDatix Acquires Transparent Health Consulting; Appoints Patient Safety & Risk Management Expert Dr. Tim McDonald to Executive Team

CHICAGO, March 24, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- RLDatix, the leading global provider of intelligent patient safety solutions, announced today that it has acquired Transparent Health Consulting, a firm that focuses on the implementation of communication and patient safety resolution programs in order to respond to and prevent patient harm. Transparent Health Consulting has an experiential, comprehensive and principled educational approach to preventing enterprise risk after patient harm has occurred. The proprietary approach takes further the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's (AHRQ) Communication and Optimal Resolution (CANDOR) toolkit by providing health delivery organizations with the appropriate information and education about how to implement patient safety and risk management best practices grounded in empathic communication.

As part of the acquisition, Timothy B. McDonald, M.D., J.D., will become RLDatix's Chief Patient Safety & Risk Officer. Dr. McDonald is a pediatric anesthesiologist as well as a lawyer. Working with several industry peers with funding from a grant by AHRQ, Dr. McDonald served as a lead architect for the CANDOR consulting toolkit. He is an internationally recognized expert on patient safety and enterprise risk management and will be integral to the next chapter of RLDatix's long-standing commitment to advancing the industry to zero harm.

"Tim has dedicated his career to the evolving relationship between patient safety and risk management," said Jeff Surges, CEO of RLDatix. "By partnering closely with our customers, we know that the appropriate identification and resolution of key patient safety events is critically important for patients, their families and enterprise risk managers. The addition of proven training principles and methods for sharing best practices?as well as Dr. McDonald's decades of expertise?will provide health system and hospital leaders with a proven solution as they continue their journey to zero harm."

Dr. McDonald's passion is openly and honestly communicating with patients and families when care doesn't work out as planned. Through his experience in leadership roles as a patient safety officer, attorney and policy change advocate, he understands that it is important to care for the caregivers as well as the patients when unexpected outcomes occur. This, combined with compassion and sincerity, strengthens healthcare delivery organizations and creates harmony within their cultures. CANDOR provides a road map through customized gap analyses, empathic communication workshops and one-on-one training for health systems that are motivated to change?for the better?the way they respond to and prevent patient harm.

"As a physician and an attorney, I have spent the last 35 years at the interface of medicine and law," said Dr. McDonald. "What we will be doing at RLDatix is right in line with my experience, and I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to help combine RLDatix's best-in-class software with our proven educational methodologies and implementation science that connect the hearts and heads of leaders, administrators and staff at hospitals and health systems around the world. With the technology, we will also be able to use data to help organizations track their patient safety progress and determine how shared learnings are working within the customer organizations, and what's leading to safer, higher quality and more efficient care."

The continued investment to serve the patient safety community is part of RLDatix's stated multi-year strategy.

"At the core of RLDatix's heritage is over three decades of working with front-line safety professionals and executives around the world," said Sachin Agrawal, President?Corporate Development, Strategy and Data at RLDatix.
