Recovery Science Corporation (RSC) announced that its GPS monitoring program has now been included in over 800 bail orders since 2010 and currently monitors over 200 individuals across Canada

BRADFORD, ON, March 17, 2020 /CNW Telbec/ - Canadian courts have determined that GPS monitoring can tip the balance in favor of release on bail for some individuals who would otherwise have been detained in remand custody until their trial. This is primarily due to its ability to deter breaches of house arrest, curfew, and geographic restrictions, the assurance it provides that any such breaches will be detected and reported to the police forthwith, and its ability to deter the commission of new offences because the individual being monitored knows that the GPS record will place them at the scene.

Provincial governments vary widely in their approach to electronic monitoring, including whether they offer any form of monitoring at all, whether they have GPS technology, and whether they limit the availability of monitoring through eligibility criteria. RSC's private sector program helps fill these gaps by making GPS technology uniformly available for use in bail cases across the country.

The accused, with the help of their defense lawyer, decides whether to propose monitoring as part of their plan of supervision and is responsible for all costs. The program's Participant Agreement includes a comprehensive waiver of confidentiality that enables RSC to report violations and share monitoring data with police.

In addition to its GPS monitoring program for bail, RSC makes two forms of alcohol monitoring technology available for use in criminal, family, and child protection matters. In criminal matters, RSC's GPS and alcohol monitoring have also been included in a number of conditional sentences and peace bonds.

RSC is a private company based in Ontario.
