MilfordMD Cosmetic Surgeon Dr. Richard E. Buckley Gives an Inside Look at "Skin Botox" - A Popular South Korean Treatment Gaining Popularity in the U.S.

MILFORD, Pa., March 5, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Since 1999, Botox Cosmetic has been the number one aesthetic procedure performed by cosmetic surgeons. It's most well-known for treating facial lines and wrinkles, TMJ and migraines. Now the Aesthetic Society is predicting that a new use for Botox, known as Skin Botox, Botox Facial, Microtox, MesoBotox or Baby Botox is going to be a top trending cosmetic treatment in 2020 as more men and women are wanting to look their best, but not in an unnatural or "done" way.

"In Korea, where the ideal complexion is poreless and translucent, MesoBotox or 'Skin Botox' is the treatment Korean celebrities swear by to achieve the "glass skin" look and now MilfordMD is happy to be able to offer this fascinating treatment to our patients," says Dr. Richard E. Buckley, Cosmetic Surgeon and Medical Director of MilfordMD Cosmetic Dermatology Surgery & Laser Center. "At MilfordMD there has been an increase in patients requesting this treatment to smooth the skin and diminish fine wrinkles, especially among millennial men and women. Our commitment is to our patients, so we always strive to offer proven new procedures that deliver natural-looking results."

Trends are shifting away from overly-enhanced looks with 41% of patients stating a fear of looking unnatural as their top concern when considering cosmetic enhancements, as well as an influx in patients under 30 wanting cosmetic treatments according to the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) annual survey. "While South Korea has been using 'Skin Botox' for about 10 years, given the increasing demand for natural-looking results, especially from millennials, it's no surprise that the demand for Skin Botox in the U.S. is increasing," says Dr. Buckley.

"Traditional injections of botulinum toxin derivatives (neuromodulators), like Botox Cosmetic, Dysport, Jeuveau, and Xeomin are injected into the muscle bellies to decrease the muscular contraction. With microtox or 'Skin Botox', a diluted, small quantity of Botox, Dysport, Xeomin or Jeuveau and a hyaluronic acid filler, such as Restylane Refyne or Restylane Silk are very superficially injected into the skin where they only target the skin where oil production, facial flushing and acne occur," says Dr. Buckley. "The goal is to create particular changes in the face, such as helping to improve very fine wrinkles, decrease the production of oil, shrink pore size, and get a smoother appearance to the surface of the skin."

Traditional uses of neuromodulators (e.g. Dysport and Botox) iron out and prevent deep wrinkles in the skin by reducing muscle activity in specific areas of the face, such as the forehead, laugh lines or crow's feet. 'Skin Botox' is most frequently used to target pores to create an all-over smoothing effect.

"In order to achieve the smoothing effect, the Botox and hyaluronic acid need to be placed very superficially under the skin. At MilfordMD, the ultra-fine microneedling AQUAGOLD® fine touchtm device is the preferred method for this treatment. Using a stamping technique, the neuromodulator and hyaluronic acid filler mixture in the AQUAGOLD® fine touchtm device is pumped into the dermal and epidermal layers of facial skin. Since the muscles are not affected, full movement of the face remains," states Dr. Buckley. AQUAGOLD® fine touchtm is a patented, microchannel microinjector designed to painlessly and effectively deliver microdoses of therapeutics into the skin which makes it the ideal delivery system for 'Skin Botox'. With the AQUAGOLD® fine touchtm we deliver hundreds of microdoses in a single session compared to the handful of times Botox is traditionally injected into facial muscles.

Similar to traditional Botox injections, the results can be seen about two weeks following the treatment and last for three to six months. Men and women who are interested in reducing pore size, decreasing facial oil production and fine facial lines are great candidate for 'Skin Botox' using neuromodulators and hyaluronic sugar.

"In addition to creating a smooth, airbrushed look, 'Skin Botox' is also helpful with improving scars," says Dr. Buckley. "In fact, it's a good substance to inject at the end of a surgical procedure to minimize the scar formation following surgery. It can also be used to improve the look of acne scars, such as depressed ice-pick scars. Microtox can be used to help raise these scars from their depths and to make them more level with the rest of the facial skin. Then they are treated again with Microtox to help them blend in with the rest of the facial skin. According to a study published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Botox injections reduced both the bumpiness and the width of acne scars.

"No matter what cosmetic procedure is being done, at MilfordMD the goal is to always provide ultra-natural looking results. With 'Skin Botox' patients are able to get just that. The treatment creates an airbrushed, smooth, brighter look where the patients simply looks like an improved version of themselves," says Dr. Buckley.
