MEDIA ADVISORY - International Women's Day 2020: Celebrating 35 Years of Section 15
TORONTO, March 2, 2020 /CNW/ - The Law Society of Ontario, the Ontario Bar Association ? Women Lawyers Forum, the Women's Law Association of Ontario, the Women's Legal Education and Action Fund, and the Barbra Schlifer Commemorative Clinic present an evening commemorating the 35th anniversary of the establishment of Section 15 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Section 15 provides that every individual in Canada ? regardless of race, religion, national or ethnic origin, colour, sex, age or physical or mental disability ? is to be treated with the same respect, dignity and consideration.
The evening's speakers will provide a historical perspective on the origins of Section 15 and discuss how these rights may evolve in the future. The Ontario Human Rights Code as a tool to promote equality rights will also be examined and a female Justice of the Ontario Supreme Court will share her experience.

- Linda Silver Dranoff, family law lawyer (retired), writer, activist, 2006 recipient of the Law Society Medal and 2012 recipient of the Order of Canada
- Dr. Kim Stanton, Partner, Goldblatt Partners and Senior Fellow, Massey College, University of Toronto
- Renu Mandhane, Chief Commissioner of the Ontario Human Rights Commission
- Madam Justice Shaun O'Brien, Ontario Superior Court of Justice
