Media Advisory - Media Availability with Parks Canada's Underwater Archeology Team Following the Announcement of Results from their 2019 Research Mission and the Unveiling of New Artifacts from HMS Erebus


GATINEAU, QC, Feb. 20, 2020 /CNW/ - Today, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change and minister responsible for Parks Canada, Jonathan Wilkinson, and the President of Inuit Heritage Trust, Pamela Gross, announced the results from Parks Canada's Underwater Archeology Team's 2019 research mission and unveiled newly discovered jointly-owned artifacts recovered from HMS Erebus.

The exploration of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, is one of the largest, most complex underwater archeological undertakings in Canadian history. Over 350 new artifacts were discovered from the wreck of HMS Erebus, making it one of Parks Canada's most successful research missions to date.

Media are invited to participate in a teleconference with members of Parks Canada's Underwater Archaeology Team who made these significant discoveries. Two teleconferences will be held to accommodate various media schedules.
