Negative Population Growth Praises State Department Crack Down on Birth Tourism

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 30, 2020 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Negative Population Growth (NPG) President Donald Mann has commended the action of the U.S. State Department in their new effort to halt the growing flood of foreign women coming to the U.S. to give birth to children who will automatically gain U.S. citizenship.

Mann greeted the announcement by stating: "The issue of reining-in 'anchor babies' and putting an end to the ever-growing abuse of our nation's problematic birthright citizenship policies has been a priority goal of NPG. We applaud any and all steps our government can take to put the brakes on those looking to use this immigration loophole to ultimately bring their entire family to America in the future."

Actions taken by NPG in recent years that have been targeted to "fixing" the present flaws in the nation's birthright citizenship policy include running national ads and an on-going national petition drive that has reached hundreds of thousands of citizens. The petitions, signed by their constituents, ask Members of Congress to sponsor and support H.R. 140, legislation that would limit automatic birthright citizenship to newborns who have at least one parent who is currently a U.S. citizen, or in our nation legally.

"We must remember," Mann continued, "that Birthright Citizenship was first established in 1868 to protect the voting rights of recently-freed slaves. Immigration status was never mentioned. Today, due to current interpretation of the original language, it has grown to protect almost anyone born on U.S. soil. Surely our nation has the right to clarify who should receive citizenship status based on the reading of the 14th Amendment."

While lauding the State Department's goal to no longer issue visas to potential birth right abusers, Mann acknowledged: "There is no question that the open border lobby will immediately go running to the courts to quash the State Department's activities. However, their action will only embolden us to fight harder for a workable solution to end this travesty."

Mann observed: "Right now, we have to look at this action as a major plus ? one which will seriously undermine the rapid growth of the 'birth tourism industry' in major cities nationwide, where women pay tens of thousands of dollars to be guided through all of the fine points of duping the present U.S. immigration system." He went on to say: "What we also need is for the Trump administration to have the Justice Department concurrently ratchet-up their crackdown on this fraudulent activity. By doing so, we have a great chance to decrease the present number of 300,000 'anchor babies' who are born annually in the U.S. and whose births sow the seeds for greater population growth in the future."

"In the long run," Mann added, "I'm hopeful that by the White House making birthright citizenship the subject of an Executive Order, and shining a spotlight on this ongoing crisis, we may finally be able to bring it out of the shadows and spark a long-overdue national debate on this festering issue on Capitol Hill and, if necessary, in the U.S. Supreme Court."

Mann concluded by saying: "I give great credit to NPG members who have been in the forefront of this battle for years. This positive government action gives solace to all of us who are fighting for responsible, common-sense immigration policies to help us shape a livable future for all Americans."

Founded in 1972, NPG is a national nonprofit membership organization dedicated to educating the American public and political leaders regarding the damaging effects of population growth. We believe that our nation is already vastly overpopulated in terms of the long-range carrying capacity of its resources and environment. NPG advocates the adoption of its Proposed National Population Policy, with the goal of eventually stabilizing U.S. population at a sustainable level ? far lower than today's. We do not simply identify the problems ? we propose solutions.
