AM BestTV: Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation Honors Markel Corp., Co-Vice Chairman
In this AMBestTV episode from the 2019 Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF) Benefit Dinner, Anthony F. Markel, co-vice chairman of Markel Corp., accepts the foundation's "Double I" award on behalf of his company for its charitable work.
The "Double I" award recognizes influence in the industry and impact in the community. Markel said that "giving back" is engrained in the company's culture of sharing.
"It's become a way of life with us that giving back is just as important as anything else that we strive to do every day," said Markel at the event, which took place Dec. 11, 2019, in New York.
Included in Markel's charitable efforts was helping to raise $1 billion for the City of Hope, an independent research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. The IICF is a nonprofit that unites the insurance industry to help communities and enrich lives through grants and volunteer service. According to Barbara Bufkin, executive head of business development, commercial lines, Assurant, and IICF Board of Governors chair, the foundation has raised more than $9 million since 2007.
