SambaNova Systems Named 2019 "Startup to Watch" by Global Semiconductor Alliance

SambaNova Systems, the company building the industry's most advanced systems platform to run artificial intelligence (AI) applications from the datacenter to the edge, announced today it was named the 2019 "Startup to Watch" by the Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA). The annual award is presented to individuals and companies that have demonstrated unparalleled excellence through their vision, innovation, execution and future opportunity.

As researchers develop more sophisticated machine learning models to solve the most challenging AI, neural nets and deep learning problems of our time, it's becoming obvious that current systems cannot achieve the levels of performance, scale, and efficiency required for these advanced use cases. SambaNova Systems has developed a Reconfigurable Dataflow Architecture (RDA).

SambaNova Systems' RDA is a unique, vertically integrated platform that is optimized from the algorithm, through the compiler, and down to the silicon to achieve breakthrough performance and flexibility for data scientists and software developers creating the next generation of machine learning and deep learning applications. The software-defined hardware architecture is scalable and flexible to support today's algorithms and models as well as those to be developed in the future and provides developers with a variety of programming options depending on their expertise and requirements.

"GSA is one of the most prestigious and well-known organizations in our industry," said Rodrigo Liang, SambaNova Systems CEO and co-founder. "Recognition among our peers, partners and industry experts further validates the advanced thinking of our team and our pursuit to design the most advanced system for the next generation of computing."

"The Global Semiconductor Alliance (GSA) congratulates SambaNova Systems on their winning the 2019 Startup to Watch award. We are excited to see what is in store for the company in the coming years and are eager to see how they will change the computing industry," said Jodi Shelton, GSA CEO and co-founder.

SambaNova Systems was founded in 2017 by Rodrigo Liang and Stanford Professors Kunle Olukotun and Chris Ré. Kunle is known as the "father of the multi-core processor" and the leader of the Stanford Hydra Chip Multiprocessor (CMP) research project. Chris is an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science at Stanford University in the InfoLab. Most recently, the company completed a $150M Series B funding round, led by Intel Capital, with additional participation from existing investors GV (formerly Google Ventures), Walden International, Atlantic Bridge Ventures, Redline Capital, WRVI Capital, Samsung, Micron, and SK Telecom.

The GSA Awards Dinner Celebration is the industry's premier annual event attracting over 1500 leaders to celebrate the accomplishments of this industry and honor the best-performing companies and top leaders. Each year the GSA recognizes companies that have demonstrated excellence through their vision, strategy, execution and future opportunity. The celebration honors the achievements of semiconductor companies in several categories ranging from outstanding leadership to financial accomplishments, as well as overall respect within the industry.
