Deadline to Apply for 2019 Military Child of the Year® Awards is December 9 Military Youth 13-18 Eligible to Receive $10,000

SAN ANTONIO, Dec. 2, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The deadline is fast approaching for youth ages 13 to 18 in military families to be nominated for a $10,000 cash grant, a trip to Washington, D.C., and the honor of being a Military Child of the Year®. Operation Homefront, a national nonprofit with the mission of building strong, stable, and secure military families, will accept nominations for the 2020 Military Child of the Year® Awards as well as applications for the 2020 Military Child of the Year® Award for Innovation through December 9.

The annual awards will recognize seven outstanding young people ages 13 to 18. The six recipients of the Military Child of the Year® Award will represent a branch of the armed forces ? the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and National Guard ? for their resiliency, leadership, achievement, and other criteria while facing the challenges of military family life.

The seventh award is the Military Child of the Year® Award for Innovation presented by global technology and consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton. This award goes to a military child who has designed a bold and creative solution to address a local, regional, or global challenge. The Military Child of the Year® Award for Innovation recipient will be partnered with mentors from Booz Allen Hamilton to develop a plan to scale the recipient's project.

Anyone may nominate a military child for a service branch Military Child of the Year® Award. The child must be between the ages of 13 and 18, at the time of nomination, and a legal military dependent, confirmed by the DEERS enrollment form. Family members, teachers, coaches, counselors, clergy, neighbors, and friends are encouraged to nominate outstanding military children.

To apply, visit http://www.militarychildoftheyear.org/Nominee/Nomination and click on "Nominate a Child Here." Youth interested in the Innovation Award do not need to be nominated, and may apply directly at http://www.militarychildoftheyear.org/Nominee/Nomination and click on "Apply for the Innovation Award Here." Military children may be nominated for the Military Child of the Year® Award and are also eligible to apply for the Military Child of the Year® Award for Innovation.

All awards will be presented at the annual recognition gala April 2, 2020, in the nation's capital, during which senior leaders from each branch of the service will present the award.
