Industrial 3D Printing: Secure and Productive with Identify3D and EOS

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 18, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Identify3D, the leader in security, usage control and traceability for digital manufacturing and EOS, the leading technology and solutions supplier in the field of industrial 3D printing, will showcase the integration of Identify3D secure and standardized communication solution with EOS machines for additive manufacturing (AM).

Visitors to Formnext, world's largest fair dedicated to additive manufacturing, from the 19th to the 22nd of November at the Messe Frankfurt will be able to see demonstrations of such integration on the booth of Identify3D located in Hall 12.1 E123 and on the EOS booth in Hall 11.1. Booth D31.

Identify3D enables security, usage control and traceability of manufacturing data along the supply chain, from CAM/AM applications to EOS machines, and back. Especially in changing production scenarios enabled by 3D printing like distributed manufacturing this becomes more and more important: Distributed manufacturing means distribution of very valuable data consumed by machines. The IP owner of such data needs to maintain control of the data and protect it from unauthorized access. For this, Identify3D used the EOS Software Development Kits of EOSPRINT and EOSCONNECT to develop an integrated Digital Rights Management solution.

Security along the shop floor

From CAD/CAM applications customers are now able to create an encrypted container with the data that will be eventually consumed by an EOS machine for production. Associated with the container is a license which defines how such data can be used (e.g. specific machine parameters, machine type, operator, number of parts allowed etc.). The container travels along the engineering to shop floor workflow according to an authorized path until it reaches the destination machine. There, it is unencrypted and AM-production starts under the rules previously defined. Each transaction as well as all the machine data associated with a specific job is collected into the digital thread associated with the finished physical part.

Rüdiger Herfrid, Product Line Business Owner EOSPRINT says: "EOS has taken a strong lead in developing partnerships that enrich the additive manufacturing ecosystem and has recognized data control and traceability as one of the key topics for AM. Identify3D is a partner who optimally uses the open EOS interfaces of EOSPRINT and EOSCONNECT to develop a fully integrated workflow solution for EOS customers."

"Following an initial deployment, and further running pilots, Identify3Ds solution can now be implemented with EOS machines via a dedicated industrial PC," explained Fabrizio De Pasquale, VP Business Development and Strategic Accounts at Identify3D. "Through a standardized data model and end-to-end integration, EOS users can lower operating costs in order to distribute/receive data to/from machines. In addition, the data is always protected and the production parameters, as well as parts quantities are enforceable. This allows for a tighter and more automated production process both for in-house operations as well as for distributed scenarios"

The collaboration between Identify3D and EOS started as early as 2016, once Identify3D engaged with customers using EOS machines and needing to support an automated, end-to-end, secure and controllable data distribution/collection, across multiple systems such as PLM, ERP and MES. As of today, the solution has been deployed and tested in industrial production environments.
