This GivingTuesday Help The Henry Ford Bring a Historic Piece of Detroit to Greenfield Village

DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 8, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- This GivingTuesday, December 3, 2019, The Henry Ford is asking for help with its next major building project in Greenfield Village. Throughout the day, all donations made to thf.org/GivingTuesday will go towards installing the Detroit Central Farmers Market in Greenfield Village. In addition, every donation made will be matched by longtime supporters of The Henry Ford, Don and Mary Kosch, doubling the impact of each contribution.

Originally located in the shadow of old city hall, now known as Cadillac Square,The Detroit Central Farmers Market helped feed millions of Detroiters between 1861 through 1893. Like the farmers markets of today, the market was a commercial center, a hub of entrepreneurship and a community space where family, friends and neighbors congregated and socialized. In 2003, The Henry Ford acquired the building, saving it from demolition.

Once restored, the market will be reconstructed at Washington Boulevard and Junction Street in Greenfield Village. It will serve as a place where visitors can learn about food, farming, healthy eating and agricultural innovation from the past, present and future. Visitors to Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation, can learn more about the Detroit Farmers Market during a curator chat on November 29th and #GivingTuesday, December 3rd from 1 - 2 pm.

GivingTuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Celebrated on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving in the U.S. and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, GivingTuesday kicks off the charitable season, when many focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving.
