Veterinary professionals from around the world will meet to share their expertise and insights during the annual West Indies Veterinary Conference, hosted by Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine (RUSVM) in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis from Nov. 2-7, 2019. This year's event brings together world-renowned experts who are leading research in their respective fields, including immunology and vaccinations, wildlife medicine, veterinary practice management and small and large animal medicine.

"The West Indies Veterinary Conference is an extraordinary opportunity for veterinary professionals to come together and share valuable insights, the latest research and new trends in the field," said Sean Callanan, Ph.D., MVB, MRCVS CertVR, DipECVP, FRCPath, dean of RUSVM. "We are proud of the work Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine alumni accomplish and the impact they make on the veterinary community. Connecting our alumni with other leading professionals is what makes this a premier conference for veterinary medicine."

RUSVM is pleased to welcome Professor Stuart W.J. Reid, principal of the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, as the keynote speaker. Dr. Reid is recognized by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as a specialist in veterinary epidemiology and veterinary public health by the European Board of Veterinary Specialists and is a fellow of the Royal Society of Biology, the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

"I am delighted to be attending the 2019 West Indies Veterinary Conference and to be afforded the privilege of exchanging views with Dean Callanan, his colleagues and the wider veterinary community. Of all our areas of endeavor, it is perhaps veterinarians' role in One Health that most brings us together as a profession with international horizons, impact and accountability; the West Indies Veterinary Conference is an outstanding example of RUSVM's commitment to this responsibility," said Reid, CBE, BVMS, Ph.D., DVM (Hons), DipECVPH, FRSB, FRSE, FRCVS.

Participants will also have the opportunity to attend a toxic plant identification master class and wet labs that will provide hands-on learning in stifle stabilization surgery and small animal dentistry. In addition, RUSVM will host a career fair for current veterinary students, providing them an excellent opportunity to connect with professionals and future employers. The fair gathers 17 of RUSVM's highly respected employer partners, including Banfield Pet Hospital, Thrive Affordable Vet Care, Southern Veterinary Partners and VCA, Inc.

RUSVM is committed to providing an exceptional veterinary education, preparing students to become members and leaders of global public and professional healthcare teams while advancing human and animal health (One Health) through research and knowledge exchange.
