'Freedom Squares' Sustainable Modular Rug Concept Launches On Kickstarter

OAKLAND, Calif., Oct. 22, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Canary, maker of recycled consumer products safe for families and homes, today launched Freedom Squares, a new line of sustainable, modular tile rugs made completely of recycled water bottles on Kickstarter. Designed to add beauty, style, warmth and comfort to any private, public or office space, the rugs offer consumers an alternative to household products made with toxic chemicals, including carpets, mattresses, furniture and paint. The rugs themselves can be recycled again into other Canary products.

According to The Consumer Product Safety Commission (BCP), the top five chemicals commonly found in textiles include lead, formaldehyde and phthalates. These chemicals can disrupt the endocrine system, impact the mental and physical development of children, and cause burning in the eyes, nose and throat, and irritate skin. These chemicals are invisible, threatening consumers' health without them knowing. In addition to being toxin-free, Canary rugs have no smell out-of-the-box and are hypoallergenic. Their soft texture is gentle enough for a baby's skin.

The rugs are lightweight and machine washable, and come in neutral colors. Simply detach a single square of the modular rug, no need for rug and carpet cleaners. Tiles can be grouped to make the desired size rug, making them perfect for nurseries, play rooms, living rooms, offices and anywhere family and friends gather. This allows easy relocation, or the addition of tiles over time to change the look of a rug or to fit a changing space. Canary's "Gecko Grip Strip" technology eliminates the need for a rug pad. Gecko Grip Strips use the same micro-adhesion technology found in a gecko's toes and adhere the rug to a floor without leaving marks or stains. The rugs also reduce noises in your space by absorbing sounds through its cushioned integrated backing.

"Most products used daily in the household have the ability to cause disorders, many of which doctors can't trace and don't understand," said Chris Reutelingsperger, inventor and founder, Canary. "Our diverse team of scientists and other thinkers from various cultures and backgrounds are passionate about creating safe alternatives that are also safe for the planet. We believe consumers have a right to know which materials are used in the products they buy. We're excited about our opportunity to create a healthier environment, and are grateful for the support in bringing safe, healthy consumer goods to market."
