World Wide Technology Announces Availability of End-to-End Virtual Central Office Solution

World Wide Technology (WWT), a market-leading, $11 billion technology solution provider, today announced the availability of its first end-to-end Virtual Central Office (VCO) solution. Developed in WWT's Advanced Technology Center (ATC), the WWT VCO solution has been fully integrated and tested, and is ready for mobile carriers and service providers to purchase for deployment at their edge facilities ? providing one-stop shopping for a fully virtualized central office that enhances network flexibility and will scale for future 5G operations.

"We understand the challenges mobile service providers face, balancing the continual need to deliver innovative new services to customers with the cost and maintenance challenges of building capabilities at the edge of the network," said Joe Wojtal, Vice President of Open Systems and Solutions at WWT. "WWT is pleased to provide an end-to-end solution that allows for more a flexible, agile infrastructure that will scale for future 5G operations."

WWT has collaborated with Red Hat's extensive partner ecosystem to help build WWT's Red Hat Virtual Central Office solution, which provides a blueprint for modernizing service provider operations at the network edge via an open, software-defined infrastructure platform. Once validated, WWT can deploy the VCO solution at scale through its global Integration Centers to help customers make the most of these customized open solutions.

"We're delighted to collaborate on WWT's VCO solution," said Susan James, Senior Director, Telecommunications Strategy at Red Hat. "As digital transformation continues to play a key role in 5G delivery, VCO enables service providers to deploy new capabilities for low-latency and high-bandwidth application services."

As WWT's first solution with 24-7/365 support (to be offered in the very near future), WWT VCO offerings use Red Hat's suite of software running on powerful Intel-based hardware and incorporate capabilities from world-leading partners, including Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), Altiostar, Affirmed Networks, Cumulus Networks, F5 and Edgecore Networks.

"Telcos want to deploy reliable Edge solutions which will be able to scale and support 5G Edge applications. This WWT VCO solution achieves this on trusted HPE Telco Infrastructure," said Claus Pedersen, VP of Telco and NFV Segment, Hybrid IT Group at HPE. "WWT is a valued HPE Platinum Partner and we look forward to delivering this VCO offering and other Edge solutions with WWT."

High-performing Intel technology allows service providers to manage existing services and prepare for the future on a common, nonproprietary platform. Business outcomes can include enablement of 5G service delivery, accelerated deployment, simplified operations, streamlined costs, enhanced scalability and increased service assurance.

"Intel's data-centric technology portfolio, featuring Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors, provides a performant, flexible foundation for networking and 5G-ready solutions from the network's core to the edge, said Renu Navale, Senior Director of Edge Services & Industry Enabling at Intel. "WWT's Virtual Central Office solution embodies our mutual commitment to deliver reliable network performance on open platforms."

"As more service providers take advantage of the flexibility and scalability provided by open networking, the WWT VCO is a cost-effective edge solution designed to accelerate deployment of 5G operations," said Ami Badani, CMO of Cumulus Networks. "We are excited to collaborate with WWT to accelerate adoption of this solution."
