Ellevate Network Houston Chapter Celebrates 5th Anniversary by Hosting Luncheon Focused on Gender Pay Gap

HOUSTON, Aug. 23, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Houston chapter of Ellevate Network, the nation's leading community for professional women, celebrates its 5th Anniversary on October 3rd with a special event to discuss the gender pay gap. The event will consist of a luncheon featuring guest speakers Jamille Bigio, senior fellow in the Women and Foreign Policy program at the Council on Foreign Relations and Giselle Greenwood, editor-in-chief of Houston Business Journal.

Recent studies from numerous publications reveal the extreme gap between men and women in the workforce. In the United States alone, white women are paid about 20% less than their male co-workers, with the gap increasing for women of color. Specifically speaking, this year's Black Women's Equal Pay Day fell on August 22nd meaning black women had to work an extra 8 months and 22 days to match what their male colleagues made in one year.
