HNTB Releases White Paper Exploring the Status of Nationwide Toll System Interoperability

KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 19, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- A new HNTB Corporation white paper explores the progress toward nationwide toll interoperability in our country. Since MAP-21, the toll industry has rolled out interoperability regionally in a controlled, meaningful way, consistent with each agency's business practices. To date, three major interoperable hubs have emerged:

1. Southeast: Georgia (Peach Pass), Florida (SunPass) and North Carolina (NC Quick Pass)
2. Northeast: 17 states (E-ZPass®), which form the Interagency Group
3. Central: Kansas (K-TAG), Texas (TxTag) and Oklahoma (PikePass)

The white paper, "We're getting close," is authored by Kevin Hoeflich, PE, HNTB chairman toll services and senior vice president.

"As soon as the Southeast and the Central hubs become interoperable, the toll industry will have achieved critical mass," Hoeflich said. "HNTB predicts that will happen in the next three to five years. National interoperability is expected by 2025."
