OTTAWA, July 3, 2019 /CNW/ - The Cannabis Council of Canada ("C3") applauds the Government of Ontario for today's announcement of an expansion of adult use retail cannabis licenses.
"Ontario has taken a significant step forward in creating a mature, robust and responsible legal cannabis sector," said Megan McCrae, Board Chair of C3 and VP of Marketing for Aphria. "We look forward to working with the OCS and new independent retail store owners to ensure that Ontarians are able to consistently access the quality cannabis they demand in even more retail locations."
With national cannabis supply levels improving, C3 believes that the continued and sustained expansion of Ontario's retail network will be a key factor in replacing the illicit cannabis market with a legal regulated one.
"National data clearly demonstrates that Canadians prefer to access legal cannabis through physical brick and mortar stores," said John Fowler, Vice Chair (Adult-use) of C3 and President of The Supreme Cannabis Company, Inc. "Today's announcement in Ontario is a significant step forward for what is likely to be Canada's largest provincial market. The increased footprint of brick and mortar cannabis stores represents strong opportunities for economic growth for our members and will be an important advancement to increase the portion of Ontario cannabis sales earned by legal, regulated licensees. Industry stakeholders across Ontario should be pleased with the announcement."
Moving forward C3 will work closely with the government of Ontario, as it supports small business, enables new job creation and fights organized crime through the expansion of a legal retail cannabis sector.
