The Côte-Nord region diversifies and enhances its tourism offering


The Government of Canada awards a total of nearly $1 million in financial assistance for enhancing the tourism offering in the Côte-Nord

SEPT-ÎLES, QC, June 28, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Three winter activity clubs, an inn and an ancestral settlement will receive contributions totalling $953,783 from Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions. Rémi Massé, Member of Parliament for Avignon?La Mitis?Matane?Matapédia and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, announced that funding today when passing through Sept-Îles. The Government of Canada's assistance will help the recipient businesses and organization achieve their set objectives. Their respective projects will generate total investments of more than $2.3M and create 13 jobs in the Côte-Nord region.

Specifically, the Club de motoneige Les Lagopèdes de Fermont, the Club de motoneige Ook-Pik de Sept?Îles and the Club de ski de fond Rapido de Sept-Îles will each be able to purchase a groomer through non-repayable contributions of $201,000, $197,323 and $179,340, respectively.

As for the Natashquan pour la sauvegarde de la Source corporation, which has the role of promoting the culture and heritage of Gilles Vigneault, it will receive $114,000 in non-repayable financial assistance for promoting the Gilles Vigneault heritage site. This project will, among other things, help renovate the ancestral dwellings and develop an interpretation concept.

Lastly, a new accommodation company, Innuberge, will be created thanks to a repayable financial assistance of $262,120. Located on the lower North Shore, Innuberge will offer ecotourism activities within the community of Unamen Shipu (La Romaine). This project will allow to purchase and install high-end pre-fabricated cottages and build a multi-use pavilion. The arrival of Innuberge will address a growing need for accommodation for the tourists who visit or pass through this region.

Today's announcement is made on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister responsible for the Innovation, Science and Economic Development portfolio, which comprises 17 federal departments and agencies, including CED and the other five regional development agencies.
