The Côte-Nord region diversifies and enhances its tourism offering

The Government of Canada awards a total of nearly $1 million in financial assistance for enhancing the tourism offering in the Côte-Nord

SEPT-ÎLES, QC, June 28, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Three winter activity clubs, an inn and an ancestral settlement will receive contributions totalling $953,783 from Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions. Rémi Massé, Member of Parliament for Avignon?La Mitis?Matane?Matapédia and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, announced that funding today when passing through Sept-Îles. The Government of Canada's assistance will help the recipient businesses and organization achieve their set objectives. Their respective projects will generate total investments of more than $2.3M and create 13 jobs in the Côte-Nord region.

Specifically, the Club de motoneige Les Lagopèdes de Fermont, the Club de motoneige Ook-Pik de Sept?Îles and the Club de ski de fond Rapido de Sept-Îles will each be able to purchase a groomer through non-repayable contributions of $201,000, $197,323 and $179,340, respectively.

As for the Natashquan pour la sauvegarde de la Source corporation, which has the role of promoting the culture and heritage of Gilles Vigneault, it will receive $114,000 in non-repayable financial assistance for promoting the Gilles Vigneault heritage site. This project will, among other things, help renovate the ancestral dwellings and develop an interpretation concept.

Lastly, a new accommodation company, Innuberge, will be created thanks to a repayable financial assistance of $262,120. Located on the lower North Shore, Innuberge will offer ecotourism activities within the community of Unamen Shipu (La Romaine). This project will allow to purchase and install high-end pre-fabricated cottages and build a multi-use pavilion. The arrival of Innuberge will address a growing need for accommodation for the tourists who visit or pass through this region.

The Government of Canada does not hesitate to support projects that have a positive impact on local tourism and the local economy and that further showcase the unique attractions around us and resonate far beyond the North-Shore.

"Our government does not hesitate to support projects that contribute to the economic vitality of Quebec's communities. Modern, high-quality tourism infrastructures help enhance the regions' appeal and stimulate their economic activity. I am proud of the financial support announced today by the Government of Canada because it will make a solid contribution to the vitality of the Côte-Nord communities."
