MetroNet Announces Massive Upgrade to High-Speed Fiber Optic Internet

MetroNet today announced a massive upgrade to its system by enabling customers to have the same upload and download speeds, removing virtually any lag time. The move to symmetrical upload and download speeds will be automatic for customers and will not increase monthly bills.

The majority of residential and business customers who are already a part of MetroNet's 100% fiber optic network have been automatically upgraded to the new symmetrical speed over the last week at no cost to them. As an example of what customers can expect, those who have their 200 (download)/75 (upload) megabits per second (Mbps) speeds will upgrade to 200/200Mbps automatically. The most notable difference in service will be seen while uploading large data files, high-resolution photos, and videos, or during online gaming.

"MetroNet already possesses cutting-edge fiber optic technology to enhance our customers' experience while on the internet, and we're excited to offer them even more," stated Chief Technology Officer, Jason Schreiber. "Thanks to our state-of-the-art fiber optic network, we are able to upgrade our customers easily and offer them internet speeds that our competitors can't match."

In January, MetroNet acquired Grand Rapids-based LightSpeed Fiber and expanded their footprint in the Midwest. Customers who previously had services through LightSpeed Fiber will be a part of the automatic symmetrical speed upgrade in the MetroNet family.

"Serving our customers with fast, reliable internet is the heart of what we do, and being able to serve them an even better product at no additional cost to them is one way that we can thank them for choosing us," stated MetroNet President John Cinelli. "We look forward to continually enhancing their user experience."

MetroNet is actively working to upgrade all customers to symmetrical speeds through the summer, with plans for the majority of their markets to be fully upgraded by the end of July.

Customers who have questions about symmetrical speeds are encouraged to reach out by calling 1-877-407-3224.
