FDB to Share Insights on Maximizing the Use of Unique Device Identifiers at UDI Conference 2019

The session will take place on Tuesday, June 11 from 10:45 a.m.-11:45 a.m. ET.

The need for regularity and consistency in medical device information has been one of the primary drivers behind the US Food and Drug Administration's development of the Unique Device Identifier (UDI), which creates a framework that can be employed in a wide variety of healthcare applications. Because of the UDI, those conducting clinical, supply chain, patient safety and research operations can now easily identify relevant device attributes to aid decision-making. The session will emphasize that the UDI initiative must consequently be viewed as much more than a regulatory requirement, but instead, a key that can unlock additional relevant product attributes, facilitate recall management, improve EHR documentation, and simplify inventory management. The presentation will outline the available opportunities and how they might be achieved with UDI-based data.

Mr. Lupinetti will be joined by co-panelists Dr. James Tcheng, Professor of Medicine, Duke University School of Medicine and Dr. Joseph Drozda, Director of Outcomes Research, Mercy Health. The panelists will share their insights on the UDI's role in supply chain processes, safety issues, point-of-care information delivery, and outcomes analysis, as well as provide a look into the key factors that will drive greater UDI adoption.
