Toshiba Memory America Highlights How Flash Memory is Fundamentally Changing the Driver Experience at TU-Automotive

This week at TU-AutomotiveToshiba Memory America, Inc. (TMA), the U.S.-based subsidiary of Toshiba Memory Corporation, will be on the show floor highlighting its flash-based embedded memory solutions that meet the demanding storage requirements of automotive applications. At the show, Scott Beekman, director of managed flash memory products for TMA, will deliver a presentation titled, "Flash Memory Trends in Automotive." Part of TU-Automotive's "Connected Services & Data" session stream, Beekman's presentation will take place on Wednesday, June 5 from 3:25 ? 3:50 p.m. EDT in the Igloo Room on the show floor.

Consumers are increasingly demanding the same capabilities and interfaces from their car that they get from their smartphones and tablets, making cars far more than mere methods of transportation. In the quest for an elevated driving experience, advances such as autonomous vehicles, infotainment systems, clusters, telematics, and ADAS1 are all creating greater demand for storage within vehicles. In addition to handling the enormous quantities of data generated by these in-vehicle applications, automotive memory solutions must also be fast, reliable, support a wide range of environments and temperatures, be shock- and vibration-resistant, and fully compatible with industry-standard interfaces.

As the inventor of NAND flash, the maker of the industry's first Universal Flash Storage (UFS2) devices and a leader in process migrations, Toshiba Memory is in a unique position to address the storage demands of the automotive systems of today ? and tomorrow. The company is committed to continually reinforcing its lineup of embedded flash memory solutions for automotive applications with the latest technology advances ? including its BiCS FLASHtm 3D flash memory.

Demonstrations can be seen at TMA's booth #B174 at the Suburban Collection Showcase from June 5 ? 6, and include:

"Storage requirements within vehicles continue to expand, whether it be for Infotainment, ADAS or other functions," noted Beekman. "Just as our UFS has enabled improved performance in consumer applications such as smartphones, so too is Automotive UFS enabling enhanced performance and capacities to meet these needs within automotive applications."

[2] Universal Flash Storage (UFS) is a product category for a class of embedded memory products built to the JEDEC
UFS standard specification. JEDEC is a registered trademark of JEDEC Solid State Technology Association.
[3] Electrical component qualification requirements defined by the AEC (Automotive Electronics Council).
[4] In every mention of a Toshiba Memory product: Product density is identified based on the density of memory chip(s) within the Product, not the amount of memory capacity available for data storage by the end user. Consumer-usable capacity will be less due to overhead data areas, formatting, bad blocks, and other constraints, and may also vary based on the host device and application. For details, please refer to applicable product specifications. The definition of 1Gb = 230 bits = 1,073,741,824 bits. The definition of 1GB = 230 bytes = 1,073,741,824 bytes.
