ITMAV Program (Initiatives de travail de milieu auprès des aînés en situation de vulnérabilité) - Government assistance to improve the quality of life of English-speaking seniors

QUÉBEC CITY, May 17, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - Christopher Skeete, the Parliamentary Assistant to the Premier for Relations with English-speaking Quebecers, Christopher Skeete, is pleased to announce that English-speaking seniors will benefit from the ITMAV program (Initiatives de travail de milieu auprès des aînés en situation de vulnérabilité) launched by Marguerite Blais, the Minister Responsible for Seniors, this past May 8.

Under the ITMAV program of the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux, 6.9 million dollars has been set aside to finance 154 projects aiming to support seniors in vulnerable situations. More specifically, this funding will enable community-based organizations to maintain existing positions or hire new staff to assist in guiding these people toward the appropriate resources within their communities, while enabling them to make their own choices for their well-being.

Six of the projects selected in connection with this program were submitted by organizations serving the English-speaking community, which will also benefit from this financing. These are the following organizations, which are located in several regions of Québec: the Council for Anglophone Magdalen Islanders, the Committee for Anglophone Social Action, Connexions, the Seniors Club of La Tabatière, West Island Citizen Advocacy and the West Island Community Resource Centre.

Seniors Action Quebec is encouraged to see the Secrétariat aux aînés supporting the capacity of English-speaking community-organizations to address these threats via this announcement of ITMAV funding. The Secrétariat des relations avec les Québécois d'expression anglaise has played a facilitating role in connecting the Secrétariat aux aînés to the realities of the English-speaking communities."

We also wish to congratulate the Secrétariat aux relations avec les Québécois d'expression anglaise for its key role in building bridges between the English-speaking community and Québec's governmental organizations.
