Media Advisory - Campaign celebrates National PSW Day with free giveaways and important information for Kingston area home care workers

KINGSTON, ON, May 17, 2019 /CNW/ - To celebrate National Personal Support Worker Day, Kingston's Homecareworkers.ca campaign will be distributing gift bags to PSWs at City Park from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21st. The gift bags will include everything from treats to handy job-related items, as well as useful information about health and safety.

The campaign is being organized by local residents and Canadian Union of Public Employees members. Doug Nesbitt, a community organizer with the campaign, says, "PSWs and all home care workers across Ontario are doing some of the most difficult and important healthcare work, but are among the lowest paid in the healthcare sector. If home care workers get together and win respect and dignity on the job, working conditions will improve. Better jobs will alleviate high turnover and staffing shortages, and help patients and families get the care they deserve."

The campaign is using National PSW Day to bring attention to the working conditions of home care workers and to provide useful tools and education about workplace rights, opportunities for improving working conditions and job security, and the massive changes that are being made to Ontario's health care system.

Homecareworkers.ca is also hosting a free "lunch and learn" for home care workers on June 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the 680 Innovation Drive.
