Bipartisan House Resolution Condemns Tehran's Terrorism, Voices Support for Democratic Change in Iran

WASHINGTON, May 16, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Council of Resistance of Iran, U.S. Representative Office (NCRI-US), welcomes the introduction of a resolution by a large bipartisan group of Members of Congress condemning the Iranian regime's terrorism against U.S. citizens and the Iranian Resistance.

H.Res.374, "Condemning Iranian state-sponsored terrorism and expressing support for the Iranian people's desire for a democratic, secular, and non-nuclear republic of Iran," was filed by Representative Tom McClintock (R-CA), Chairman Brad Sherman (D-CA) and dozens of other members, among them committee and sub-committee chairs and ranking members.

Recalling that "Iran uses embassies as cover to plot terrorist attacks" including "an Iranian diplomat out of the Austrian embassy as part of the plot to bomb" the Free Iran 2018 gathering in Paris, the resolution highlights that, "Albania expelled Iran's Ambassador... for planning terrorist activities against Iranian dissidents and members of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK)."

In May, NCRI-US released a new book, Iran's Emissaries of terror, documenting a sharp increase in terror plots by the MOIS and Foreign Ministry in Europe and the U.S. in 2018.

The resolution notes, "The United States Government arrested two Iranian nationals in August 2018 who had acted on behalf of the MOIS to conduct covert surveillance in the United States against officials of the National Council of Resistance of Iran for a target package."

It urges Washington to, "call on nations to prevent the malign activities of the Iranian regime's diplomatic missions, with the goal of closing them down, including the Iranian embassy in Albania."

H.Res.374 refers to the 10-point plan for the future of Iran introduced by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of NCRI, calling for, "the universal right to vote, free elections, and a market economy, and advocates gender, religious, and ethnic equality, a foreign policy based on peaceful coexistence, and a non-nuclear Iran," and "recognizes the rights of the Iranian people and their struggle to establish a democratic, secular, and non-nuclear republic of Iran."

Ms. Soona Samsami, NCRI's U.S. Representative, welcomed the initiative: "H.Res.374, as in the past, shows large bipartisan support for Iranian people's aspirations for democracy and their legitimate right to establish freedom in Iran."

These materials are being distributed by NCRI-US on behalf of the National Council of Resistance of Iran.  Additional information is on file with the Department of Justice, Washington, DC.
