Smith Receives e-Stewards Certification

HOUSTON, April 25, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Smith, a global distributor of electronic components and semiconductors, announces its certification to the e-Stewards standard. This certification recognizes Smith's ability to promote the responsible reuse and recycling of electronics utilizing the industry's best practices.

The e-Stewards certification is supported by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and ensures that the best management practices are used to assess the environmental, worker health, and security conditions pertaining to recycled electronics. e-Stewards auditors surveyed Smith's facilities to verify the distributor's compliance with all qualifications of the standard, including secure data procedures, ethical labor, and best IT asset disposition practices. All data stored on electronics must be destroyed, ethics laws must be implemented in line with city and state requirements, and toxic e-waste must be properly recycled to protect workers and the environment.

Smith's facilities in Houston are also R2 certified, which, along with the company's e-Stewards certification, helps Smith to support a healthy and responsible global recycling stream. Smith's customizable Intelligent ITADTM program offers customers secure data destruction, decommissioning, and degaussing services. Commitment to environmental safety and industry best practices are core values of Smith's operational front.

"One of Smith's top priorities is to exercise due diligence to safeguard our customers' and partners' data responsibly," said Kirk Wehby, Smith's Chief Operating Officer. "Earning the e-Stewards certification showcases Smith's ongoing dedication to reducing the presence of e-waste in the global supply chain."

"Customers across industries can benefit by working with a supply chain partner that is e-Stewards certified," continued Wehby. "Smith has verified capabilities and procedures in place to properly dispose of e-waste from projects of any size."
