Media Advisory - Call for Coroner's Inquest Into Death of Deaf-Blind Student at School Announced

TORONTO, April 23, 2019 /CNW/ - Former Mayoral Candidate and Human Rights Lawyer Saron Gebresellassi will hold a press conference tomorrow (Wednesday) April 24th 2019, at 9:30am, at the Ontario Ministry of Education, to call for a Coroner's Inquest into the death of a student which occurred at an institution in their jurisdiction. Speaking on behalf of the Estate of Samuel Brown, Gebresellassi will outline the circumstances of the fatality, and the family and community's request for a Coroner's Inquest into the 19-year-old's death. Brown, a teen that was both blind and deaf, was a student living in residence under the care of W. Ross MacDonald when he fell ill and died shortly after.

Brown is the second death to occur at the W. Ross MacDonald school. Previously, the Ministry and school settled a class action lawsuit of former students of the school with harrowing allegations of psychological degradation, physical violence, and abuse.

Saron is available to provide comment in both French and English.
