Ohlone College Awarded Alameda County Small Business Development Grant

NEWARK, Calif., April 23, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- The Ohlone Community College District has been awarded the Alameda County Small Business Development Center (ACSBDC) program grant in the amount of $521,575 by the Northern California Small Business Development Center (SBDC) fiscal agent, Humboldt State University.

"The goal is to greatly increase the availability of business expertise throughout the area," says Kristin R. Johnson, Region Director of the Northern California SBDC.

The SBDC program grant provides support to the Alameda County region of small business entrepreneurs. Ohlone's Tri-Cities Career Center will be hosting the ACSBDC program located at the Ohlone College Newark campus.

"We are pleased to be the recipient of the Alameda County SBDC program grant and to be its permanent home," says Daniel Newell, Director of the Ohlone College Tri-Cities Career Center. "This collaboration provides the Career Center access to potential employers, providing jobs, internship, and freelance opportunities for students, alumni, and the public."

The Career Center provides small business consulting and training opportunities that support economic development throughout Silicon Valley to students and to the public. Central to Ohlone's plan is to offer business consulting and training in nine locations throughout Alameda County including Newark, Fremont, Hayward, Dublin, City of Alameda, San Lorenzo, San Leandro, Castro Valley, and Oakland.

The Alameda County Small Business Development Center, led by Interim Program Director Margaret A. Jackson, will be located inside of the Ohlone College Tri-Cities Career Center. Jackson, a former lead advisor of the Silicon Valley Small Business Development Center and a local business radio personality on AM 1220 KDOW Business & Finance radio, has agreed to spearhead and establish the Alameda County Small Business Development Center program into its new home at the career center.

"Having the program nestled inside of the Ohlone Community College Tri-Cities Career Center; is an appropriate progression and complimentary to the overall program. Student entrepreneurship continues to rise, and we are here to meet that demand," says Margaret A. Jackson, Interim Program Director of the Alameda County Small Business Development Center.

"The opportunity to champion small businesses is a serious responsibility; together with Ohlone College, our expert advisors, region support, and local partners, we can champion small businesses and the aspiring entrepreneurs throughout the entire Alameda County," added Jackson. "No small business or aspiring entrepreneur will be left behind. We all win together."
