Eating Recovery Center Announces Opening of New Hospital in Denver, Colorado

DENVER, April 18, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- To answer the increasing need for high-quality, intensive eating disorder treatment and services, Eating Recovery Center (ERC) announces the opening of a new hospital at ERC's flagship location in Denver, Colorado.

"Eating disorders continue to be the deadliest of all mental illness. Over the past four years, we have seen a 71 percent increase in individuals who need 24-hour intensive, highly focused and multi-disciplinary care," says Kenneth L. Weiner, MD, CEDS, Founding Partner and Chief Executive Officer of Eating Recovery Center. "ERC is the place where patients, who have lost hope that they will ever experience recovery, come to seek treatment. Our new hospital addresses that need for increased treatment availability and makes it possible for us to serve more patients and save more lives."

This new 62,000 square-foot, 72-bed state-of-the-art behavioral health hospital is Eating Recovery Center, Denver's (ERC Denver) seventh facility and will be the center of its adult eating disorder campus. It is located at 8199 E. 1st Avenue in Denver. Services offered at the new ERC Denver hospital include an Intensive Treatment Unit (ITU), which will support patients with more complex behavioral and medical comorbidities, as well as ERC's nationally recognized inpatient and residential programs. All aspects of treatment ? medical, psychological and psychiatric ? will be overseen by ERC's world-renowned medical and clinical leadership team.

With all treatment services taking place on one campus, adult patients are able to work with one care team throughout their stay. This care team collaboratively coordinates medical, therapeutic, psychiatric and dietary needs as patients recover and transition from higher levels of inpatient and residential care, through lower levels of partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient care.

The expansion of ERC Denver also answers a shortage of eating disorder treatment and care across the United States. Currently, 85 percent of ERC Denver patients travel to Colorado from out of state. The opening of this hospital allows ERC to expand capacity to handle the most complex cases that require highly specialized care.

The new hospital is also part of ERC's continued growth and leadership in eating disorder treatment and care. In 2008, ERC opened its first facility in Denver with a 12-bed and 12-slot Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) facility. Today, as the largest national eating disorder treatment provider, ERC's vast network includes nearly 30 facilities with over 300 beds and 440 PHP slots in seven states across the country, treating more than 5,000 patients a year.

"For the last 10 years, Eating Recovery Center has been at the forefront of innovative eating disorder treatment and care," says Anne Marie O'Melia, MS, MD, FAAP, Chief Medical Officer of Eating Recovery Center. "Our new facility expands on the leadership, growth and unparalleled treatment for which ERC has become known. We are very excited to open yet another set of doors to our community here in Denver, which will undoubtedly also serve people across the country seeking the very best care."

Patients and staff were major contributors throughout the planning and design process to ensure the hospital serves patients' functional needs in a tranquil environment that supports healing and recovery.
