Animation in Norway goes back to 1913, with Norwegian director Sverre Halvorsen's one-minute short animation, Roald Amundsen on the South Pole. Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) has been introducing animated films and animated TV series for children from the UK, Eastern Europe, Canada, Sweden and Denmark.

Since 1990, the Norwegian animation industry has undergone rapid growth. It is now producing quality animation across techniques and formats including children's films to experimental animation. There are several professional studios that produce high-quality animation output.

The total value of Norwegian games industry was US$ 328 million in 2018 and is projected to reach US$ 397 million by 2020. Mobile & hand held games is the fastest growing segment, followed by Console games.
