Almost $500,000 to support the growth of three Drummondville businesses


The Government of Canada supports projects by Kombu, Matritech and Lemire Precision

Drummondville, QC, April 17, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)

Drummondville businesses Kombu, Matritech and Lemire Precision will be able to pursue their growth more effectively with the help of a total of $475,000 in repayable contributions from Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions.

The funding will allow Kombu Inc., a startup company, to ensure its development by acquiring and installing automated production equipment; Matritech Inc. will be able to acquire new innovative equipment to support its growth and enhance its productivity. Finally, the contribution awarded to Lemire Precision Inc.. will allow this exporting businesses to support its growth through the acquisition of digital equipment.

The funding was announced today by Richard Hébert, MP for Lac-Saint-Jean and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Small Business and Export Promotion. The Government of Canada assistance will help the recipient businesses achieve their set objectives. The companies' respective projects will generate a total investment of over $2 million and will result in the creation of seven new jobs in the Drummondville region.

The Government of Canada is committed to creating close partnerships with Quebec businesses to support their efforts to innovate and increase their productivity and competitiveness, and to contribute to the economic vitality of the regions, job creation and the improvement of citizens' quality of life.

Repayable contribution of $200,000 out of a total investment of $910,000

Launched in 2018, Kombu Inc. is a new agri-food company located in the incubator of the Société de développement économique de Drummondville (SDED). Established by two young entrepreneurs, the company specializes in producing sparkling beverages based on kombucha, fruit and local flavours.

The project aims to ensure the growth of this new company. CED's contribution will be used to purchase and install automated production equipment that includes a bottling machine and an integrated production management system.

The project will create six jobs.

Matritech Inc.

Repayable contribution of $150,000 out of a total investment of $715,000

Founded in 1989, Matritech Inc. has 127 employees and specializes in metal processing. Its service offering includes die and mould design, stamping, laser cutting, punching, bending and welding. This company is international in scope and does most of its selling to major contractors in the transportation and recreational vehicle sectors.

The project aims to ensure the growth of Matritech through the installation of innovative equipment and to improve its productivity through the purchase of digital equipment. CED's assistance will be used for assembling the robotic nail plate packaging cell, and for purchasing and installing a latest-generation press brake. 

Lemire Precision Inc.

Repayable contribution of $125,000 out of a total investment of $395,000

Founded in 1981, Lemire Precision inc. specializes in machining from metal bars for the manufacture of small, high-volume parts for the needs of major contractors. The company is the largest screw machining plant in Quebec and forms part of the value chains of several sectors, including the automotive industry and recreational products.

The project aims to support the growth of this exporting company through the purchase of digital equipment. CED's contribution will cover the cost of purchasing two latest-generation digitally controlled machining centres.

The project will create five jobs.
