Canada supports climate education by New Brunswick's Science East Science Centre

FREDERICTON, NB, April 16, 2019 /CNW/ - Climate change is one of the defining environmental challenges of our time. Increasing climate education, awareness, and action through independent third parties will support Canada's efforts to protect the environment and transition to a cleaner economy.

Today, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, Matt DeCourcey, on behalf of the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, announced funding through the Climate Action Fund to Science East Science Centre to help students, teachers, families, businesses, and communities across New Brunswick learn more about climate change.

Science East Science Centre's project will involve creating teaching material on environmental issues related to climate change. Science East Science Centre will also be inviting organizations and companies to hold events where projects are displayed and career advice is offered, in communities across New Brunswick.

The Climate Action Fund provides up to $3 million to support projects delivered by students, youth, Indigenous Peoples and organizations, not-for-profit organizations, small and medium-sized businesses, and research and educational institutions.

Funded projects will raise awareness of climate change and clean growth and encourage others to take action in support of Canada's climate goals.

Quotes

"I am inspired by the initiatives being brought forward by Canadians from coast to coast to coast. These projects will provide learning opportunities for Canadians across the country to fight climate change. They will also support students, teachers, and communities in New Brunswick in making a difference. Together, we're sharing great ideas that will help raise awareness of the importance of taking action on climate change right now."
? Matt DeCourcey, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship

"There are so many ways for every individual to make a difference in the challenges of climate change. It all starts with knowledge. These funds enable us to deliver bilingual, inquiry-driven educational experiences to schools and community-outreach events to underserved regions. New Brunswick youth and communities will have the chance to access the latest information on environmental issues, projects, and careers, to build their knowledge on climate change and inspire their future decisions."
? David Desjardins, Chief Executive Officer of Science East Science Centre
