A live expo about the dangers of texting and driving

Secure your phone. Save your life. #ImpactfulReminder

MONTREAL, April 15, 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - In partnership with the City of Montreal, Impactful Reminder today unveils an exhibition aimed at boosting public awareness about the dangers of mobile phone use while driving. Installed at Place Jacques Cartier from April 15 to 18, the initiative features actual vehicles involved in accidents caused by texting.

As partner, the City of Montreal applauds the initiative and hopes it will help reduce to zero the number of fatalities and serious injuries on our roads, making them safer for everyone. Its hope is that such a hard-hitting expo will have a lasting impact on people.

"Although we all know we shouldn't use our phones while driving, most people seem desensitized to the issue. We hope this exhibit will incite Montrealers to take action and raise awareness amongst their peers," states Éric Alan Caldwell, head of planning, transportation and the public consultation office for Montreal.

A study by the SAAQ reveals that nearly one in five drivers admits to writing or reading text messages while driving. Though largely trivialized, distracted driving is an offense that results in more fatal collisions than drunk driving, according to a report from the Sûreté du Québec.

The "Impactful Reminder" live expo is based on the stories of three victims whose accidents occurred in Quebec. Using photos provided by the victims and their families as guides, the cars were converted into near-perfect replicas of the ones involved in the three victims' accidents. Onsite, visitors will be able to read the victims' stories by texting the number associated with each replica car.

The public is encouraged to activate "driving" mode on their mobile by visiting www.textodetrop.com/en. The exhibit will be open to the public from April 15 to 18 at Place Jacques Cartier.
