Home Care Ontario Applauds the Ontario Government for its Focus on Home Care in the 2019 Budget

TORONTO, April 12, 2019 /CNW/ - Home Care Ontario, the voice of home care in OntarioTM, applauds the Ontario government for its focus on home care in the 2019 Budget. The budget included $267 million in new funding for home and community care to help end hallway health care.

"These new investments will help more people get the care they want, while supporting our front-line caregivers and fostering innovation and collaboration across the health care system," said Sue VanderBent, CEO of Home Care Ontario.  "We know that home care is a key to ending hallway health care and delivering real results for patients, and these new investments will make sure people get care where they want it, at home."

Earlier this year Home Care Ontario launched a campaign to draw attention to home care as the solution to ending hallway health care in Ontario. The End Hallway Health Care campaign (www.endhallwayhealthcare.ca) calls for putting home care at the centre of the health care system to take the pressure off our overcrowded hospitals while providing more patients and their families with the professional care they need in their own home.  Yesterday's investments go a long way to help achieve that goal.

"Hallway health care is a nightmare that more and more Ontario families are having to live through," concluded VanderBent. "The measures contained in the 2019 Budget will help address this growing issue, and ensure patients have access to the care they need.  We look forward to working with the government to build an innovative and integrated health system around the patient and their families."
